Assistant Professors in Sustainable Agriculture and the Environment (Cluster Hire)
The Faculty of Land and Food Systems at the University of British Columbia, Vancouver, Canada (www.landfood.ubc.ca) is seeking outstanding candidates for three full-time, tenure-track positions in Plant or Soil Science, as part of the Sustainable Agriculture and the Environment group, the Applied Biology program and the Centre for Sustainable Food Systems at UBC Farm. The anticipated start date is January 1, 2020.
Applicants must have a PhD in a discipline relevant to Plant or Soil Science, plus evidence of outstanding potential for research in areas such as: agroecology, applied soil physics, environmental soil chemistry, horticulture, pedology, plant ecophysiology, plant-microbe interactions, plant pathology, soil-water dynamics, soil biogeochemistry, sustainable crop production and protection. The successful candidate(s) are expected to develop an independent, externally funded, and internationally recognized research program with a vision and demonstrated enthusiasm for interdisciplinary collaboration with faculty members in the Faculty of Land and Food Systems and other UBC units to bring new and innovative perspectives to research and education in sustainable agriculture and environment. Applicants must also demonstrate strong potential for excellence in teaching at both the undergraduate and graduate levels, complement our current teaching programs, and be able to attract excellent graduate students.
We are particularly interested in candidates whose research programs bridge multiple scales (genes to ecosystems) and/or address plant/crop adaptation to environmental change. Ideal candidates will conduct inter- and multi-disciplinary research on plants and soils in inventive ways to develop solutions for sustainable crop production and soil and water management. Corresponding to the vision of the Faculty of Land and Food Systems, the candidates’ research expertise and program must be grounded in sustainable agriculture and food systems and capable of linking cutting-edge research with public outreach and knowledge mobilization.
