Seeking candidates for a post-doctoral fellowship with a focus on reducing nitrous oxide emissions from agricultural systems through the use of biological nitrification inhibition (BNI). This research will be conducted within a collaborative program between Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada (AAFC) and the Japanese International Research Centre for Agricultural Sciences (JIRCAS) (https://www.jircas.go.jp/en). The successful applicant will be required to spend between 12 and 24 months living and working in Japan (airfare and a stipend of approximately $4 500 per month are provided – see http://www.nserc-crsng.gc.ca/Students-Etudiants/PD-NP/JSPS-SJPS_eng.aspfor more details). About US$ 20,000 (for two years fellowship) to cover the cost of research expenses, which include attending one international conference during the fellowship period.
Applicants must have a Ph.D. awarded within the last four years in a relevant science or engineering program, with an emphasis on soil or agricultural science. Applicants must also be a permanent resident or citizen of Canada. Preference will be given to candidates with demonstrated experience conducting research of soil/plant processes and nitrogen cycling in agro-ecosystems as well as a track record of peer-reviewed publications. Some experience/expertise in soil-N modelling would be helpful. The successful candidate will have the ability to work independently, along with excellent organizational and problem-solving skills. Capacity to lead substantial research and effectively communicate research results to wide audiences will be an asset.
This one year position will commence June 1, 2020, with an opportunity for a one-year extension.
