Alex Kramer – Outgoing President
Patricia Hanuszak – Incoming President
I look forward to serving the role as the PRSSS president for this upcoming year. For the past two years In my previous position as treasurer I was able to witness the strength of this organization and its membership. In 2019/2020 we conducted our summer soil ID course in the heart of the Okanagan during forest fire season under the constant threat of forest fire season. That fall saw our last Fall Field Tour with Andy Jakoy as an active mentor for the PRSSS and for his service over the years we are eternally grateful and informed on the interactions between landscapes and soils. The following spring we hosted one of our first Spring Workshops and AGMs outside of Vancouver in quite a few years. That event also showcased the partnership between the BCIA and the PRSSS as two organizations with overlapping values and goals. On the heels of that event BC as we know it shut down to in person gatherings and working from home no longer became the dream for most but the living everyday reality. Despite being unable to host our usual Summer Soil Id course and Fall Field tour we still found connection as a soil science community. Through the efforts and time of Lewis Fausak we hosted 3 soil science themed trivia nights. The donations for partaking in those events were matched by PRSSS and donated to social causes that we as an organization believe and support. I look towards the year ahead with optimism. Whether we host a Summer Soil Id course or not at this time is undecided but what I do know is that as group of soil science enthusiasts and community members we will show up where we are needed, have the hard conversations, and be present in the year ahead.
