Regenerative Waste Labs (RWL) is a Vancouver-based company that supports businesses who are shifting to sustainable and circular products. We provide testing, development and training services to businesses who design, make and procure circular products made from renewable resources.
Our Technical Team is responsible for conducting product biodegradation and ecotoxicity assessments as well as circular waste management research projects on behalf of our clients. We are recruiting a full-time Soil and Plant Scientist to support on-going projects. The successful candidate will contribute to the design and execution of research projects to assess soil and plant health. They will be able to plan and execute assigned experiments that support non-routine research activities and project goals with general guidance and direction. They will be responsible for conducting experiments, including collecting samples, analysing them and recording observations. The successful candidate will write reports, give presentations and share their conclusions with clients. We are looking for someone who exhibits professionalism, with experience in developing research questions, data collection and interpretation, and who can safely operate and follow required procedures in a laboratory setting. The successful candidate will be joining a very collaborative team so effective written and verbal communication skills, a high level of attention to detail and an ability to work independently are important keys to success in this role.


• Developing research questions and experimental methodologies to investigate soil and plant health. • Preparing documented proposals and successfully establishing research trials • Regularly communicating with Management • Managing trial establishment and collection of data • Budgeting for research work and providing management reporting in regard to trial/research progress • Conducting experiments on field crops, focusing on characteristics such as yield, quality, disease resistance, nutritional value. • Conducting studies on soil stability, moisture retention or drainage, sustainability, and environmental impact. • Performing biochemical analysis on micro-organism content of soil to determine microbial reactions and chemical mineralogical relationship to plant growth • Preparing reports describing research conclusions, and providing information, recommendations or technical advice to clients

Skills and Experience

• Post-graduate degree (MSc or PhD) in agricultural sciences, crop science, soil science, plant physiology, horticulture or related field. • Proven skills in independent scientific research • Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate difficult concepts clearly in plain language orally and in writing • Ability to research information independently and to analyse, synthesize and act on the acquired information. • Critical thinking skills and good judgment
• Good time management, with ability to organize, prioritize and meet deadlines • Ability to work well with cross-functional teams and diverse groups of stakeholders • Adaptable and willing to learn new techniques • Effective written and verbal communication skills • Ability to work effectively within a team and independently • Excellent problem-solving skills Applicants must be eligible for the NRC Youth Employment Program.
