Postdoctoral Fellow Appointment
The University of Winnipeg is accepting applications for a Postdoctoral Fellow position with expertise in soil science, biogeochemistry, or environmental science.
The Postdoctoral Fellow will conduct research under the supervision of Dr. Nora Casson and Dr. Darshani Kumaragamage. The appointment is for a one-year term, with a preferred start date of March 1. Specifically, the postdoc will join two projects: 1) Evaluating the effectiveness of soil amendments in reducing P losses from manured soils with snowmelt flooding. The objective of this research is to evaluate the effect of alum, gypsum, and magnesium sulfate in reducing P losses from soils during snowmelt. We are in the second year of a field study, and so the postdoc will be responsible for leading field sampling during snowmelt 2022, lab analysis of soil and water samples, data analysis and writing peer-reviewed manuscripts. 2) Impacts of climate change on carbon cycling in boreal watersheds. The objective of this research is to evaluate climate-driven changes in stores and transport of carbon from soils to soil water to streams. The postdoc will be responsible for lab analysis of soil and water samples, data analysis and writing peer-reviewed manuscripts.
The ideal candidate will have experience conducting fieldwork, familiarity with lab techniques for measuring carbon and nutrients in soil and water, excellent quantitative skills, experience analyzing and managing environmental datasets and strong communication skills. The applicant should have excellent organizational, communication, and writing skills, record of peer-reviewed publications in soil science, hydrology, biogeochemistry or other related fields, and an interest in working as part of a collaborative team. Applicants with diverse research backgrounds are encouraged to apply. Candidates must have received a Ph.D. in soil science, biogeochemistry, or environmental science, or a related field by the start date.
Application Process: Interested candidates should send: • a cover letter • a current curriculum vitae • a research statement • the names of three references (references will only be contacted for short-listed candidates) Applicants must submit all of the above materials through The University of Winnipeg’s online recruitment system.
